These seven words spoken by my little brother struck my heart with astonishment. We were on a family vacation, and I had been writing about my fear and uncertainty and how overwhelmed I was by my sins and failures.
Then one night, during our devotions, my brother asked: "Why is God so good to us?"
Such a simple question burst my suffocating bubble of self and made me worship the One who is incredibly kind and gracious to me, though I don't deserve any mercy from His hand.
Babies + Infants
Having younger siblings has made me realize that the faith of a child is often much greater than my own. They are confident that God gives the answers and fixes the scrapes, cuts, and bruises.
I am cynical. Anxious. Hard-hearted.
They believe while their precious little hearts testify to His faithfulness.
Psalm 8:2 says, "Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger."
Children are quick to praise and trust while we take our time and rationalize our sins and efforts. Yet His mercy is greater than our grown-up apprehensions and doubts, and if we go to Him in humility, He will always welcome us to find rest in Him and become childlike once more.
"See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are." -1 John 3:1
As someone once said, "God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good." There is never a moment when His goodness ceases to be.
So let us praise Him for His grace today, He is so good to us!
