Finding Light in Christ: Songs of Hope for Loss and Darkness

In times of darkness, and loss, to what do you turn?

To food?

To rebellion?

To anger and a raised fist?

To a loving God who has only your good in mind? It can be tempting to chase after earthly mirages that seem so solid and thirst-quenching, but we end up only like cartoon characters jumping into the "water" and then falling flat on our faces, empty and unsatisfied.

In suffering and loss, we discover out where our hope truly lies, and if you are struggling today, and waiting for healing, turn your eyes upon Jesus. Even though it feels sometimes (at least for me) that He does not hear or care, 1 John 5:14 reminds us to not lose heart because, "This is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us." He hears, sees, and knows us fully, and our pain will never go to waste.

Music has been a soothing balm to my soul in times of great pain, and I share these six songs with you today in hopes they will do the same for you on whatever tough road you might be walking on today.

"Heaven waits for us like a sea beyond the shore. Heaven waits for us, where the tears will fall no more."

"When the brokenness of sin surrounds, people fail and leaders fall, Still the Lord will be my hiding place, I am safe upon the rock."

"He has paid for every failure, mercy flows in endless streams, come and follow, freedom calls you, rest in Him."

"You have been King of my Glory; won't you be my Prince of Peace?"

"In the longing of our souls, in the darkness where we go, You are there, You are love, You are altogether good"

"Come ye sinners, poor and needy, weak and wounded, sick and sore, Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity, love and power."
